WESTERN LESVOS

Even though this part of the island, is widely known as 'Wild West', mainly due to its intense volcanic formations and rugged mountains, everyone admits that the longer sandy beaches, the most breathtaking coastal paths, the rarest botanic species and the unique petrified forest, can be found here!

Your accommodation is in medieval Eresos, one of the most important cities of antiquity, homeland of great poets, botanists and philosophers.
Day 1
Transfer to Eresos, after landing at the airport. Welcome dinner, at night.
Day 2

Our first walk is from Eresos to the Petrified Forest. This unique monument of nature was created millions of years ago due to the intense volcanic activity of the area. The existed subtropical forest was trapped in tones of volcanic material, which allowed the perfect petrifaction of the trunks, under certain hydrothermal conditions. We'll visit just a part of the 150.000 acres Petrified Forest, in an area that is characterized as a Geopark in Europe. All along the path, as well as in the Park, we'll see astonishing petrified Sequoias, still standing, pines and plane trees, all brightened by beautiful mineral colors. In Sigri, after a nice refreshing swim, we'll taste some delicious local recipes and we'll be guided in the Natural History Museum. (9km)
Day 3 
Today we'll hike in the green valley of river Maliondas, all the way up to the springs. Following the mulepath, we'll come across, some fruit-bearing trees, poplars and colorful bushes around small rural houses and water mills forgotten by time, under the shelter of tall, eternal plane trees. Later on at the woman's agricultural co-operative of Mesotopos, we'll learn how to make the delicious 'pasteli'(local recipe), and we'll try their phenomenal food creations in the sunny village square.
Day 4 
Our route, today leads us to Parakoila, a beautiful traditional village, known for its orange groves and weaving mills. We'll follow the stone built path, meandering trough the orange trees, cross the double arched bridge and hike along the river Taxiarhis, through flower-filled meadows and green hills abundant with berries, ferns and the unique Rhododendron coloring the thick pine forest. Traditional pick-nick in Agia Dosia, prepared by the local woman's agricultural co-operative. (9km)
Day 5 
Gastronomy and traditional products is the theme of today's walk. We'll follow the road, which joins some of the most beautiful medieval villages nestled on green hills.
We'll wonder around Vatousa and try some of the best local cheeses an delicacies such as yogurt with honey and home-made sweets, in a traditional 'cafenio' (Greek cafe), we'll learn all the secrets of an old olive press in Pterounda and taste the wine of Hidira basted on an ancient vine species. Day 6 
Today we'll take a breathtaking coastal walk, at Lapsarna, along sea-swept peninsulas with hidden coves and marvelous views to the endless blue sea, dotted by white washed chapels in an unspoiled environment. We'll follow cliff-edge paths on steep rocks, walk on long deserted sandy beaches, cross mythic settlements and climb over shrub-covered hills, to reveal fertile valleys and picturesque tiny harbors. A night full of Greek dancing is ahead.
Day 7 
Flight times permitting, we stop at Mytilini (capital city of the island), for sightseeing on the way to the airport.
